Apathy and Understanding at Yahoo!(?) and The Peanut Butter Manifesto

Yahoo?Perhaps the water has finally broken on a new direction amidst Yahoo!‘s current, multi-faceted yet directionless business strategy. The Wall Street Journal reports that an internal memo from SVP Bruce “Rebel Yell” Garlinghouse may indicate times are a-changing.

The missive is now affectionately known as the “Peanut Butter Manifesto” for its reference to the spread-thin strategy of Yahoo thus far. But “Rebel Yell” takes it further.. he’s ready to go Jack Welch and start lopping off the 15-20% of bottom feeders who add little value to a company struggling to define its future.

I’m struck by the memos “rah rah” (or do you say “ra ra”) tone which also simultaneously promotes a bloodletting.

In defense of 99.9% of Yahoo!’s employees…. Hey, SVP Garlinghouse and others… before you point the finger at others.. maybe it should be at you. What kind of company sheepishly awards forced, unpaid vacation to its workers during the holidays? Well, Yahoo!
