Ginger Sushi

Ginger Sushi Restaurant in NYC's East Village

Can I tell ya how much I like sushi? OK, I will. I like it so much that I take pictures of it just before engulfing the delicious slabs.

The East Village of New York City is chock full of good sushi and sashimi haunts in my humble opinion and one of my favorites is Ginger on 1st Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets.

A comfortable, intimate interior of Ginger allows for maximum enjoyment of well-executed raw fish just the way I like it – not too big but too small.

Plus is you like rolls – maki – this place has great selections that include the usual suspects such as eel, spicy tuna, avocado AND the unusual suspects of mango, banana and even peanut butter.

Over the past few years that I’ve visited, I’m not sure I’ve seen the menu change very much but it hasn’t mattered. I usually order the same old thing. “Just give the dish with most fish on it.” That award goes to the sushi/sashimi combination dinner and a few appetizers often taken from the ‘specials’ list.

The picture you see is a take-out version of Ginger – the 9 piece sashimi dinner with salad and a Dragon roll (eel and avocado -hope I have that right) .

Ginger gets 4.5 out of 5 manhole covers.

Whaddya think?
