Esashi Sushi

Last night’s sushi adventures took EVP to Esashi, a sushi restaurant on Avenue A between 3rd and 4th Sts. in the East Village. Overall, I find their take-out sashimi deluxe, priced at $21, a disappontment.

It just didn’t seem like there was much sashimi in there. The presentation was lacking as things got all ‘mushed up’ in the tray. The taste of the sashimi was definitely adequate and I’m sure if I had been sitting in the restaurant, I would have been more impressed.

There were maki rolls included in the dish but I could not identify their fish origin – perhaps it was eel. Strange that I couldn’t identify it. Yet, it was tasty – in spite of the ‘mushedness’.

The miso soup was good except that I had ordered the salad so, obviously, there was a bit of a mixup in the kitchen.

East Village Podcasts blog gives Esashi 2.5 out of 5 yellowtail.
