Kura Sushi
My New York City takeout sushi adventures continued last weekend as I visited the East Village sushi restaurant closest to my home office, Kura Sushi, on 1st Avenue and 4th Street in 10003.
I ordered the mysteriously-titled “Sushi B” which contains sushi, as you might expect, and a mundane spicy tuna roll. And then, on the side, I ordered a special eel roll which was sweet, warm and delicious. A cup of lettuce was also provided with the usual, tasty ginger dressing – or whatever it is.
Look, the meal was fine. It was not out of this world but once again, it’s difficult to blow away with sushi takeout when thinking from the restauranteurs perspective. Presentation was acceptable though the price tag of $27 seemed a bit on the steep side even though it is the East Village of NYC.
Memorable fish included a particular succulent slab of yellowtail which provided meaty texture with a sublime ‘oralgasm’. (Note to self on ‘oralgasm’: Hmm, new Wikipedia entry?)
All in all the takeout sushi experience with Kura Sushi was adequate. Nothing over the top but it did the job with a high price point.
This East Village blog bestows my most local sushi shack 3.5 out of 5 yellowtail slabs.
