Laura Veirs: The Gramercy Theater, New York City
Laura Veirs appeared last night with her well-coiffed band at the Gramercy Theater in New York City and put on a solid hour-long show that left the audience tapping their toes.
I was a first-timer to Ms. Veirs music and melodies and was reminded of Jane Siberry or Suzanne Vega – but a bit more upbeat.
It’s hard for me to discern the lyrics of Viers music in a live setting – I have trouble hearing anybody’s words in a live music setting – but given the youthful, coffee clatch crowd, I have a feeling they’re intelligent and speak to those looking for more than a cup of Starbucks.
Laura Veirs and band travel to Philadelphia tonight. If you’re down in Philly, you’d be well-advised to catch the show. Or you can buy her new album, Saltbreakers.
