Sunday was another trip of Red Hook culinary revelation, as I walked around the industrial, growing neighborhood and ended up at Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pie.
The entrance to Steve’s is unassuming enough in a beautiful old Brooklyn waterfront warehouse. A small, but lime-needy queue of customers extended modestly from the cash register as we waited patiently for our ‘fix.’
Friends turned me on the idea of getting a key lime pie on a stick. By the description you might think that it’s less than appetizing. You’d be wrong. The Swingle is a treat. Steve’s website says it best:
- “And what do you get when you take the absolute best key lime pie, put it on a stick, dip it in premium chocolate and freeze it? Of course you get a Swingleâ„¢, a frozen, chocolate-dipped key lime pie on a stick! And we’ve got them. They are to die-for!”
Yeah. They’re good. Glad I don’t live closer or I’d have Swingle AND beer gut. For now, I just have beer gut.
