Cooper Square Hotel on 7/21 – Beam Me Down, Scottie

Cooper Square Hotel – 7/21

My hike to the post office today included a weekly ‘inspection’ of the Cooper Square Hotel site which never ceases to amaze. Seems like they’re rebuilding it like it’s somebody’s erector set ‘game’.

This photo was taken just when I arrived at the corner of 6th St. and Bowery.

You can see from the photo, near the very top of the building, there is an I-beam hanging from the big, mondo-sized crane. Instead of the I-beam getting placed in or on the building, down it came.

Hey somebody make a mistake up there? What’s going on?

I’ve been wondering what that immense building was going to be.
A hotel? What’s next? A Disney Land? A fake Paris? Enough is enough!
I’ve lived in the East Village since 1979. At the time it was dangerous. Now it’s more expensive than the Upper East Side. And yes, I’m an artist who graduated from SVA in ’76. New York City is going to gradually rid itself of all creative people because in order to be creative and young means you are poor. NYC these days is only for the rich. We have to spek together as artists, as human beings, as citizens, and let the powers that be know we’re not going to put up with b******t any more.
