East Houston Hotel: More Hotels in the East Village Vicinity

East Houston Hotel

An evening stroll in the Wednesday swelter brought the revelation of the East Houston Hotel, a tidy little chocolate cake of a hotel on the corner of Houston and Eldridge. It looked, well, looked good from what I could see – which was not much.

If you want to step inside, an intrepid Curbed reader blasted his/her way into the lobby before anyone knew what was happening. It appears to still be under construction.

I’m not sure I totally understand the labeling on the awning. It seems to say, “Hotel 1 East Houston,” but it’s located at 151 East Houston. Maybe 1 East Houston is for marketing purposes? Or is that a vertical bar between “Hotel” and “East Houston.” Either way, I have spent hours considering the possibilities.

The permit in the window reveals 6 floors total and an end date for construction of December, 2006.

I gather things have taken longer than planned.

At least, the Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired logo is done. In fact, if you look real close, you can see Jesus.

Gridskipper offers a thorough review – from last December – which informs how far behind this baby is (owner was hoping for a February open) and includes a sneak peek of the boutique hotel’s roof deck:

Co-owner Jinsup An accosted me as I was snapping covert pics and invited me inside. The hotel, he says, will be a 43-room 6-story boutique hotel opening in 2 months. I believe his claim to the number of rooms, his assertion of the hotel’s height is verifiably true but all signs point to an irrational hope in having the place open in 2 months. When it does open (we’re going to say at least 4-5 months), the rooms will range from $215 to $400.

I continue to have fantasies about turning my 1-closet apartment into a ’boutique hotel.’ Ch-ching.

Hi, I did a search on this hotel and was prompted to your blog. My husband is staying there, and he’s really unhappy about the rooms. Extremely small with only a bed, TV and small table (big enough for the telephone). NO place to sit or hang clothes, zero facilities (no minifridge etc). And the rates are US$349-399. Quite ridiculous!

I did a search, and couldnt find any sites of the rooms either. Are you sure it’s a boutique hotel?? ;p

Make sure you get a written quote from this hotel if you do call. I received a quote from the lady at the desk there, only to have it revoked when I called back in a week later. Although I did eventually succeed in securing the original quotation price, it was not easy.
