Update: Cooper Union Building Continues to Bubble
The New Cooper Union building designed by Thom Mayne – and as previously referenced here on the East Village Podcasts blog – continues to bubble.
In the picture you can see the foundation being built and surrounded by a ‘bathtub’ of cement not too dissimilar from the bathtub at the World Trade Center site.
Located on 3rd avenue between 7th street and 6th street – across from McSorley’s Pub, the new student building will be conveniently surrounded by the bar, a church and the Cooper Square Hotel. An enormous crane currently announces the imminent arrival of the building from its cement moorings. Construction cranes are the latest rage on Bowery and up Third and Fourth Avenues in 10003.
At the very least, according to the New York Times, the architecture students of Cooper Union are enjoying the new construction managed by in the field office of the F. J. Sciame Construction Company.
