NY Giants Win Super Bowl: East Village Rejoices

Super Bowl – Eli Manning of the New York Giants

In one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history according to me, the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots in a game that was decided in the final minute.

East Village residents were glued to their barstools at local bar favorite, Mona’s, on Avenue B between 13th and 14th Streets in NYC.

At times, the game looked bleak for the hometown team which quieted the knowledgeable crowd of New York Giant fans gathered to watch the game, eat pizza and root their team on to victory. In the end, the rooting worked.

Midway through the first quarter, the pizza guy arrived with close to five pizzas which surely signaled end to the Patriots 18-game winning streak.

When NY Giants receiver Plaxico Burress caught the game-winnning touchdown in the end zone from eventual Super Bowl XLII MVP and quarterback, Eli Manning, Mona’s exploded with joy and relief.

On the way back to the East Village Podcasts blog offices, screams – likely positive, in nature – could be heard up and down the avenue which was followed by the occasional police siren. No doubt the NYPD was celebrating the Giants Super Bowl victory, too. The ticker tape parade will be Tuesday according to New York Newsday.

All hail the Giants of New York. All hail the coming onslaught of Super Bowl merchandise at an East Village retail store near you.
