Aspergers Community Started By Brooklyn Blogger

Aspergers CommunityIn recent years, the profiles of the neurological disorders Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome have grown dramatically. A Brooklyn friend of mine has moved forward with developing an Asperger’s community site that will address her ongoing research in the field as well as provide a hub for researchers, educators and service providers who are unearthing new findings, solutions and treatments.

Several of the Aspergers posts have covered late breaking news such as the use of Melatonin for children afflicted with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders) and insomnia:

Vanderbilt Sleep Disorders Center recently published a study demonstrating the potential effectiveness of Melatonin, an over-the-counter dietary supplement, as a sleep aid for children with ASDs.

Tim Page’s essay in The New Yorker in August brought additional light to “aspies” as they call themselves. It was a poignant, at times hilarious, essay showing the difficulties that individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome can encounter as they grow up – and as they live their adult lives.

With many great bloggers already providing excellent information such as Autism Vox and Autism Diva, no doubt the Brooklyn blogger’s Aspergers research community will be a welcome addition.
