In recent years, the profiles of the neurological disorders Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome have grown dramatically. A Brooklyn friend of mine has moved forward with developing an Asperger’s community site that will address her ongoing research in the field as well as provide a hub for researchers, educators and service providers who are unearthing new findings, solutions and treatments.
Vanderbilt Sleep Disorders Center recently published a study demonstrating the potential effectiveness of Melatonin, an over-the-counter dietary supplement, as a sleep aid for children with ASDs.
Tim Page’s essay in The New Yorker in August brought additional light to “aspies” as they call themselves. It was a poignant, at times hilarious, essay showing the difficulties that individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome can encounter as they grow up – and as they live their adult lives.
