Etherea: Best East Village Record Store

Etherea in the East Village

Etherea never goes away in spite of the continued gentrification of the East Village of New York City.

If you haven’t been to the EV‘s best record store – check it out. It’s located at 66 Avenue A in 10009. I enjoy going into the store, telling the helpful manager my musical interests of the moment, and he’ll give me a new album he thinks will work for me. He (or whomever is behind the counter when I arrive) is a recommendation engine with a soul.

This time I asked for a follow-up to an older album, Blue Skied An’ Clear – a compilation album released around 2001 or 2002. He recommended “A Number Of Small Things – A Collection Of Morr Music Singles From 2001 – 2007” from Morr Music – I have linked to the producer’s website – just couldn’t find it on Etherea’s which is another reason to visit the store.

The liner notes describe the music, “The ear listens, backwards. An acoustic breather and yet three steps beyond.”
