International Bar and La Casalinga No More: What Next?
With the classic dive bar “International Bar” at 120 1/2 First Avenue already “history” and now the very recent demise of La Casalinga – where I used to get a tasty and affordable Penne a la Vodka – it follows that the neighboring restaurant and bar could now be merged into something larger. But, I have no knowledge of such a plot – only my own cynical imagination.
The International Bar has an NYC Building permit sign up indicating it is being renovated. Perhaps the owners will do a “wrap around” where a connection is made between the two commercial establishments by tunneling under the existing stairwell? Conjecture at this point.
Here’s a thought: could Jack Lamb expand his Jewel Bako/JLOB/Degustation empire eastward?
Go for it, Jack! I need another restaurant I can only afford once a year.
