Walking Down Bond St., Looking for a Hotel

Bond St.: Street of the Rich and Famous

Bond St. at the West End

Ten years of continuous construction on Bond St. has transformed the quiet cobblestone street in Noho (East Village West) into a competitive – yet still quiet – architecturalmania. Now, all that is missing is a hotel.

Lately, there have been hints here and there that the Bond St. Hotel is imminent. But, “it’s never a hotel until it’s a hotel”, as Yogi would say.

The most well-known among Bond St. hotel plans are those of developer Benjamin Soleimani who will build, according to the New York Sun in October of last year, “his seven-story boutique hotel on the corner of Bond and Lafayette streets.”

Mr. Soleimani “plans to pack it with a restaurant, a spa, a lounge, and a swimming pool on the roof with its own bar. On top of the 86 hotel rooms — which will go for between $450 and $1,500 a night — he is including a 5,000-square-foot area to rent out for parties.” Thankfully “Steve the partner” wrote in the comments of the article that the “parties” idea was all wrong. I feel better, don’t you? No parties allowed!

On NOHO Manhattan’s site, the location of the new hotel is apparently under review as of this past January by Community Board 2:

8-10 Bond St. -UPDATE: The application for an as-of-right hotel at this location which was heard at CB#2 Manhattan’s Zoning Committee in October is still on hold. The design was reviewed at the Landmarks Preservation Committee Jan 8.”

Let’s hope something gets done quickly. The Cooper Square Hotel is almost done and I need another hotel to celebrate.
