Price Hike at WR Laundromat on 4th Street

WR Laundromat on 4th Street in the East Village

After depositing my first quarter, I could not believe my eyeballs as I viewed the fancy, digital display: dryer prices had skyrocketed in the past week or two at the WR Laundromat on 4th Street between 1st and 2nd avenues in 10003. Another quarter confirmed as much.

In an effort to save money in a city with a permanent hand in my wallet, each week I make a “best effort” to do my own laundry at the laundromat rather than “drop-off” – always the preferrred option when costs are of no concern or, at least, overridden by time constraints.

Much to my amazement, a quarter no longer buys you a full 8 minutes of dryer time at the WR. It’s down to 6 minutes – a 33% price increase! Undoubtedly, rising fuel prices are at play here. Also, I noticed a suspiciously lower number of WR wash buddies this past Saturday. But, I’m not sure if this was related to the high cost of hot air or everyone was at their Hampton’s share.
