Atlas Sound and Crystal Stilts at NYC’s South Street Seaport

Crystal Stilts and Atlas Sound took to the stage of the River To River Festival on Friday night at New York City’s South Street Seaport.

A small but enthusiastic crowd showed up on a balmy evening which opened with Brooklyn’s own Crystal Stilts bringing its local following. Their 45-minute set was a tight overview of their recent music – at least from what we can tell from their MySpace page – and we particularly enjoyed the female drummer’s ability to bang out driving rhythms while standing. If the band forgot the seat for the drummer, we suggest that they keep the seat in Brooklyn.

Atlas Sound was next. A one-man electronica band featuring Bradford Cox of Deerhunter.

Cox’s loyal NYC followers listened intently during the show as he wandered through tunes from his recent album “Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel.” Ohmmmmm.

Cox’s music may be too somnolent for some, but pleasantly trippy for others. We lean toward trippy.

Atlas Sound opens for Stereolab this fall. Stereolab is back.. can you believe it?
